My Journey
As a young child, I loved drawing and trying to create the smallest of details. Today my “inner child” has helped me to acknowledge that this is still my process, paying attention to a wrinkle in the face, a fold in clothing or the rhythm of a street scene.
It took a while before I began art in earnest after a lifetime of feeding my starving creativity with a world of doodles. As a self-taught artist, I started to look at art as an adventure. I began applying paint to canvas. I took note of my “mistakes” and used them as applied knowledge as I moved steadily forward. And then, stroke by stroke, I allowed art to take up more importance in my life.
The awaking of my soul was when I finally had the courage of displaying my first painting. I took the steps to take my art career for real and it felt like a new beginning. Each time someone comes and views my art with tears in their eyes, a smile on their faces, or deep emotions, it confirms that I made the right decision.
I am driven by an incredible passion for self-expression. My goal as an artist is to capture the spirit of the moment, tell a story with hopes of provoking thoughts that celebrate the realness of life experiences. I love painting the beauty and realness of diverse subjects and bringing them to the forefront of mainstream conversation.
Art has become my calling and I hope to continue to use it to make a difference in people lives.
My Process
I am a self taught visual contemporary artist whose passion for art has been influenced by the combination of my life experiences, the great master painters intricate use of detail, and the explosive colors and style of contemporary artists.
My works are driven by an incredible passion for self-expression with intense use of color and detail with the goal of capturing the viewer and allowing my simple subjects to become energetic interpretations. I paint with acrylics using brush and/or pallet knife and/or mixed media collage with the intention of blurring the boundaries between the medias. The bold saturated colors tell the story and the effects of using a pallet knife and the collage adds the dramatic texture, dimension and layers that best define and characterize my paintings. My goal is to reflect a fun special aesthetics, and a style that blends realism with modernism. My paintings have no limits and display both beauty and emotion as well as diverse subjects and cultures.
I currently live in Asheville.
My paintings include portraiture, figures, and cityscapes.
